Grace MacDonald Park and Veterans Memorial Park are the most active spots for pickup play in the city. Bowers Harbor Park on the Old Mission Peninsula is one of the most scenic places to hit anywhere in northern Michigan — courts overlooking Grand Traverse Bay don't get much better than that.
Other popular spots include Boardman Lake Park, Herman Park, Cherry Bend Park, Silver Lake Recreation Area, and Braman Park east of the city. Most are free, well-maintained, and busy throughout summer.

Summer mornings are ideal — temperatures are comfortable, the courts are less crowded before 10am, and the light on Grand Traverse Bay in the early morning is genuinely beautiful. July and August bring the most visitors, so popular courts like Grace MacDonald can get busy in the afternoons.
Fall is an underrated time to play in TC — cooler temperatures, stunning fall color on the Peninsula, and far fewer crowds. If you're visiting for the National Cherry Festival in July, build in a morning match. You won't regret it.
